Twin Cities

Postby JamieinMN » May 3rd, 2015, 7:34 pm

Yesterday, I was determined to eat at Cracker Barrel in Lakeville, MN. I decided to take the TUX into metropolitan traffic for the first time. It was a success (as I'm alive to tell you the tale).

Leaving Hutchinson, I went south on Hwy 15 and then east on US 212. I entered I-494 and maintained 70 to 75 mph with traffic until entering I-35w, and it was south on that to Lakeville. On the way home, same route in reverse. I rode the TUX like I stole it. As I got closer to home, I tried to make it go faster then I've ever had it. I ducked down, tucked in my arms, and held the throttle wide open and I was able to obtain 81 mph, a new record. My previous record was 77 mph.

I am so happy with this bike. It's light, it's agile, and it's so much fun. Since April 17th, I have ridden 615 miles, most of which are highway. I'm so glad the warm weather is finally here. :D

It gets better as it breaks in.
Its very stable at any speed you can get it up to, and if power is not a problem, its very happy on the interstate.
I have done some high speed turns on the interstate, ramps and such, and the TU did better then a lot of other bikes.
For what it is, it handles really well!

Can I get an Amen?

I drove down to Stillwater, my hometown, last month on one of those few nice days just to drive around and see all the old houses. I went via highway 61, then highway 95, so not much in the way of freeways or traffic, but in the cities.

Last week I drove down to Forest Lake via Interstate 35, which is about 2/3rds of the way to the cities, and did 75MPH most of the way. I even passed a few vehicles, but didn't make to the cities proper. I actually took one of my hands off the handlebars at 75MPH and didn't crash, so I can take that off my list of unreasonable fears.

I would think the TUX would be a good bike for the cities where the speed limit is mostly 60MPH and the TUX is just fine going that speed. Up here 75MPH per hour is the minimum most people are doing on the interstate and that's getting to the end of the line for the TUX.

Man, I miss the Cities. I moved to VA 3 years ago, and hate it. I was in the Twin Cities for 30 years prior to that. I used to live in Apple Valley (Cobblestone Lake) and rode my bike to Northfield and back on Hwy 3 a lot just for fun. Had a Honda CB550F back then. I try to get back to MN at least once a year....

I used to frequent the Gander Mountain close to that Cracker Barrel!

Your post tugs at the heartstrings.
Once lived in St Anthony Park, midway between the Cities and handy to the State Fairgrounds and School of Veterinary Medicine. Wonderful memories, except for the mosquitoes. Minnesota State Bird .. wtf .. as a noob I laughed, as a veteran resident I found it wasn't funny anymore.
